PP CARDS

PP cards, or pull pack cards, are made by Amada. These cards come individualy wrapped in envelopes tied together by a string.  Little shops would hang the pack up and allow the children to pull an envelope for 20 yen. No machines were neccessary, but full-time supervision was mandatory, so these cards were popular among mom and pop shops in Japan. A complete set of regulars could easily be obtained by purchasing one packet, but the packet would definitely not have all the prisms. Usually you could get most of the prisms and all the regulars with two packs.

 Sets are clearly marked from Part 7 to Part 32. This is the easiest way to distinguish PP cards and what set they belong to. The card number and the markings on the backs are the easiest way to tell those from set 1-6.  Most of the other features on the cards have changed several times. Numbering has been continuous from the beginning with no double numbers.

There is also a PP "special" set (which is marked clearly on the front) an early Dragonball set (the first set on the list), and a PP Barcode set (which you see as the last set).  I only have a few of these and don't know too much about them.  Apparently there was a "Memorial PP" set printed in 1996 that was a reprint of sets 13, 14, special, & 15.  These are distinguished by the fact that the date is printed on the back.  If I ever get my hands on one I'll scan it and verify this further.  For more information on these, go to: http://members.aol.com/mvmina2/dbzamada.html where you can get more info.

You will also notice that I have marked some prisms as "s" and some as "h".  What this refers to is a "soft" prism or a "hard prism.  PP cards came out in different types of packs.  The ones mentioned above, and other packs where there were 7 regulars and 2 prisms taped to a card in a protective cover.  They also had the starter collector sets with prisms, regulars, a mini album, and a hard black case with a sticker on it.  The "hard" prisms feel stiff, like hardboard (hard like the US Amada set prisms).  The "soft" prisms are more pliable.  My ultimate goal is to have both kinds in my collection.  I'm working on it!

FINALLY!!
SET 23!!!  The first set to have all the regulars and all the prisms in both hard and soft.  Not only has she managed to find quite a few from set 5 and damn near finished out set 4, but she finally did it with 23.  *And I was teasing her about having unrealistic expectations*   She hasn't been very disappointed in her quest for cards lately.  Hmpff.   *Now what excuse will I use to justify distracting her*   I suppose I need to "motivate" her more to get the scans done. At least for the specials.  *Motivating!!  Now there's a good excuse.  Heh, as if I need a reason for what I'm really after.  Now that's funny!*   Take a look around and see if you have anything we might need or trade with us for what you need.  I may let go of her long enough to reply back.  Then again, maybe not!!
